SIRONA ANNOUNCES SINGAPORE'S TEAM GPA AS THE FIRST DENTAL PRACTICE IN THE WORLD TO ACQUIRE ITS LATEST CUTTING-EDGE CEREC AC DIGITAL IMPRSSION UNITS
- Sirona, former dental arm of Siemens AG, also appoints Team GPA as the first global reference site for the CEREC AC system
02 Mar 2000
Sirona Dental Systems GmbH, one of the world’s leading dental equipment manufacturers and the former dental division of Siemens AG, unveiled its latest new digital image acquisition centre for its CAD/CAM-based all-ceramic restoration system. The CEREC AC sets new standards in terms of precision, speed and ease of use. Sirona also announced that Singapore’s dental group, Team GPA, is the first dental practice in the world to acquire two units of its latest CEREC AC system.
Sirona is also pleased to appoint Team GPA as the first global reference site for the CEREC AC system. This is an important “milestone” for the two companies, as it demonstrates the confidence of the partners – Sirona transferring new technology to Team GPA. In turn, Team GPA will be able to provide this latest “state of the art” technology to its patients.
Mr. Bart Doedens, Vice President, Dental CAD/CAM technologies of Sirona Dental Systems GmbH, said: “The new CEREC AC lays the foundations for the “impression-free” dental practice. The digital impressions and the resultant virtual 3D models are so precise that dentists can dispense completely with conventional impression-taking. We are pleased that Team GPA saw the potential and the great benefits of the CEREC AC and decided to purchase two units of the system. We have full confidence that they will transfer these benefits to their patients”.
The cornerstone of CEREC AC is the new digital acquisition center which is the CEREC Bluecam®. It boasts an automatic image capture system, an anti-shake function, as well as an extensive depth of field. The camera is capable of digitizing quadrants in less than one minute. The image quality is exceptionally high even in the peripheral areas.
The benefits for patients from the CEREC AC are the most apparent when they undergo tooth restorations. The treatment option often offered is crowning. Crowning may involve extensive removal of the patient’s natural tooth structure. With the CEREC AC technology, dentists at Team GPA will be able to make better diagnoses of patients’ conditions and offer the best treatment options. Combining with the expertise of other cutting-edge technology that Team GPA has introduced in its practise over the years, patients at Team GPA can expect less intrusive treatments like inlays and onlays, instead of crowns. The original CEREC 3D system which is widely used by Team GPA since 2002, has seen patients receiving 70% less crowns, resulting in less discomfort and shortened treatment time with fewer complications. With the latest CEREC AC, patients can look forward to even more precise treatments at a faster speed.
Dr Wilson Goh, Managing Director of GPA Holdings Pte Ltd (the parent company of Team GPA), said: “Team GPA believes in adopting the latest technology for our dental practice. The new CEREC AC units can now reduce patients’ time spent on the dental chair. A crown, inlay, onlay or veneer can be delivered in under one and a half hours or 12 restorations for a single patient in one day if required.
Patient comfort is also greatly increased because there is no need for our dentist to take an impression, or mould, from patients. The CEREC AC Bluecam can accurately take a 3D image down to 19 microns, ensuring a precise image. With this technology, Team GPA can promise patients faster, efficient and more comfortable dental treatments.
What is also exciting about the CEREC AC system is its future potential in combining with other Sirona dental technologies that is already in Team GPA’s practice. A major revolution in dentistry is about to happen, and I believe that Sirona will soon succeed in this area. Team GPA is well-positioned to play a major role in this revolution when it happens.”
Team GPA has been appointed as one of the Regional Training Centres for the CEREC 3D restoration system by the International Society of Computerised Dentistry, headquartered in Salzburg, Austria. It regularly provides training to industry peers in Singapore and the region.
“We celebrate Team GPA’s appointment as Sirona’s first global reference site for its latest digital imaging technology – CEREC AC. This announcement is a strong endorsement of Singapore’s high-quality dental practice and will further enhance Singapore’s position as Asia’s leading medical hub,” said Mr Beh Kian Teik, Director, Biomedical Sciences, Singapore Economic Development Board.
As a global reference site for the CEREC AC Digital Impression Unit, Team GPA will conduct training for industry peers, in accordance with its long-standing efforts in raising the bar in dentistry in Singapore. As the first in Singapore to acquire the CEREC 3D system in 2002, Team GPA has handled more than 10,000 cases and has all three internationally-recognized certified CEREC trainers of Singapore working exclusively in its team.
